Great thread.
John 11:35: "Jesus wept."
the wtbts is trying to decide on a year text for 2009. here are the scriptures they are trying to choose from: ecc.
12:12: "to the making of many books there is no end and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh.
" luke 18:11: "o god i thank you that i am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.
Great thread.
John 11:35: "Jesus wept."
here are some of my predictions.
i would enjoy hearing yours.. 1. the new merged meeting will eventually be shortened, perhaps to an hour and a half.. 2. more changes about the generation and 1914. they will talk about 1914 less and possibly drop it or change it when people.
stop paying much attention to it.
10p said:I'd wager that within 10 years, conventions are no more - maybe they will substitute with another assembly, or just make the one-dayer a two-dayer and then they will end up with 2x 2 day assemblies per year and no conventions.
That's my wife's guess, too... she's still "in". District Conventions will change to a 2-day (Sat/Sun) event.
i am sure some of you remember speculation in the past that the borg would.
start false letters to smoke out the elders that are passing on the information .
to the evil apostates.. "a big announcement on april 24th" sounds like it could fit the bill.
Since anybody can edit Wikipedia, somebody needs to edit this one, with the announcement of upcoming changes!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beliefs_and_practices_of_Jehovah%27s_Witnesses#The_Book_Study
i think the loss of the book study will hit some like a death of a friend.
it will mark the end of an era.
it will forever change the religion of jehovah's witnesses and i believe the change is completely irreversible.. of course, most witnesses will be delighted by this.
A couple of things...
1) I think they will still have "bookstudy groups" in the sense of an elder being assigned a group of 15-25 publishers he "cares" for. Too many of their arrangements (post-disaster recovery, shepherding, field service arrangements, hospitality for the public speaker, turning in your time) are all tied to it. My guess is there won't be a single "bookstudy conductor" (I know, they changed it to bookstudy overseer, but without the bookstudy arrangement in the homes, you're going back to conducting a meeting at the KH). Rather, the existing BSO's will take turns conducting that meeting at the KH, on a weekly rotating basis. I wonder if they'll skip reading the paragraphs? Much like the WT is done when the CO visits (which is a whole other thread anyway, isn't it?!)?
2) My wife (still in) is surprised, but thinks most families will embrace gladly the change and be relieved at one less meeting per week. Then she made an interesting observation... she's been expecting that in the near future they will cut the District Convention back to just a two-day event, Saturday and Sunday, to help the friends with travel costs, not having to get time off work, etc. They've already shortened the program days... we went from 7 days to 5 days to 4 days, to 3 days, to 2.5 days, why not make Friday just go away all together and save the friends an extra day of hotel/travel costs and give them back a day of pay from their jobs?
after being raised as a jw, my dad was df'd for the 2nd time in 1994. that year he lost a wife, 3 children, mother and brother, as well as every friend he had made throughout his 40 years of life.
over the years my sister and i gradually started contacting him, but never had a real father/daughter relationship.
a few years ago, during my divorce, he and i sat down and started discussing his feelings.
That's right, Sweetface-- YOU define who you are!
That was a wonderful message from your father--do you still spend some time with him and step-mom? Are they near you, geographically?
Yup, I thought the same thing when I first saw that film...
when everything you think is real suddenly isn't... and the web of lies and half truths start to unravel, despite everyone who is "in" arguing otherwise.

lots of things you could pick apart in this special talk, but... this one got me:.
3. creating artificial work when there is not enough work for everyone to do.
WOW, WAC!
I know about SAP, the commercial program--I've written customizations / extentions for it, for a company I worked for. I thought it was some internal Bethel acryonym "Safe Access Point" or something. lol

Lots of things you could pick apart in this special talk, but... this one got me:
3. …creating artificial work when there is not enough work for everyone to do. Creating excessive and detailed manuals take away the dignity of the worker. It says that they are not able to do the work without detailed instructions, although there are some who may need such details.
Do they not realize that this is exactly what they do each year with the District Convention instructions, Quick Build "behavior" manuals, etc.? Sheesh!
And can any former Bethel members tell me what the SAP computer program is??
The Bethel family displays an excellent spirit. However, some display a worldly and corporate attitude. This corporate attitude affects a few, and has not spread to others. However, it is the responsibility of all to be careful we are not influence by the corporate attitude. But isn't Bethel a "non-profit corporation"? Bethel does not endorse a corporate attitude. For instance, the Bible does speak of "manager " yet Luke 12:42 refers to a house manager (Gr., oi•ko•no'mos) not in the sense of how a worldly manager or management operates. How can such an attitude enter? It comes from reading many worldly journals, from the Internet, adopting theories, it is conveyed through brothers who own or do business in the world and when we adopt their views. Can it come from computer programs like SAP? No. Although the program is made with certain terminology and operations - these can be adjusted to meet our needs.
there will be a huge announcement after the watchtower study on the 27 of april.. for what it's worth, this was just sent to me anonymously.. randy.

New Licking Guidelines
Mr. Ben, that slayed me! Very funny.
what does espresso have to do with god's message?!?!?
well nothing but they wrote about it anyway.
hey at least they didn't say espresso isn't for christians.. http://www.watchtower.org/e/19971108/article_01.htm.
At first I was going to say they are getting hard up for articles, because it says Nov 1997 at the bottom of the page so its a re print. Then going to the front home page there it is, the same article.
Hmmm.... one wonders:
Did the original poster find this article because it was on the front page, or is it on the front page because they are using some server-side code to identify the most-viewed articles in recent history, and putting a link to those on the front page as "of current interest"?
We could test that theory... everybody click on this link to another crazy article:
How to Cope with the Trials of Traffic
Let's see if it bubbles up to the main page if enough of us view it.
